Get Involved on World Sight Day

Every second Thursday in October is World Sight Day. This global day of awareness focuses on bringing attention to vision impairments, blindness, and eye health. This year’s theme is Love Your Eyes.

According to the World Health Organization, two billion people have a vision impairment or blindness and one billion of those could have been prevented or have yet to be addressed. Protect and love your eyes with a routine eye exam.

On World Sight Day 2021, contact your Member of Congress and ask them to join the Congressional Vision Caucus!

The Congressional Vision Caucus (CVC) is a bipartisan, bicameral coalition of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The CVC dedicates itself to strengthening public policy that addresses vision-related problems and disabilities. Vision loss and eye disease impact everyone – no matter your values, racial or ethnic background, political leanings, or socioeconomic circumstances. More than ever, we need our leaders in Congress to demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding Americans’ vision and eye health and ensuring access to eye care services. Over 93 million Americans are at risk for vision loss. Every Member of Congress represents constituents at risk for vision loss or who already live with vision loss, blindness, low vision, or chronic diseases that lead to vision impairment. Our individual and collective desire to protect one of our most critical sensory enablers is a value that we all share and can come together on.
