New CapMetro Bus Route Improves Access to Austin Lighthouse

For years, employees at the Austin Lighthouse have hoped for a more convenient bus stop near their workplace. That hope is now a reality!

CapMetro’s new Rapid 800 Pleasant Valley Line launches on February 23, bringing a much-needed transit stop right outside the Lighthouse headquarters on Pleasant Valley Road. With frequent service every 20 to 30 minutes and a safe crossing nearby, this route significantly improves access to southeast Austin and beyond.

Running from Berkman/Mueller to Vertex/Slaughter Lane, the Rapid 800 connects key destinations, including Mueller, Springdale Shopping Center, ACC Eastview, and Dove Springs. Future plans will extend the line to Goodnight Ranch Park & Ride, and it will also link up with the upcoming Austin Light Rail and Green Line commuter rail.

This new transit option is a game-changer for Lighthouse employees, visitors, and community members. Whether coming for vocational support, independent living skills training, adaptive technology instructionhttps://austinlighthouse.org/training-and-employment-services/adaptive-technology-training/, or mobility training, or visiting Dr. Laura Miller’s Complete Low Vision CareClinic, the Rapid 800 makes getting here easier than ever.

Public transit is about more than just convenience—it’s about accessibility and opportunity. We’re excited to see CapMetro expanding services that empower our community!
