For 90 years, Austin Lighthouse has been helping Texans with visual impairments build skills, careers, and independence. November 8th, 2025, we invite you to be part of our mission by joining our Be The Light 5K at McKinney Falls State Park!
Whether you’re running, walking, or donating, you’re making a difference in the lives of the blind and visually impaired. Enjoy a scenic, family-friendly event in the beautiful outdoors while supporting a mission that matters.

Frequently Asked Questions
The race is a 5K, however, it is a little short of 3.1 miles. It is NOT a certified course.
Participants will be running on the Onion Creek Hike & Bike Trail. The trail is paved and mostly flat. There is one short uphill.
Both! We welcome small humans, pets, and anyone else who would like to participate.

We strongly recommend that you register in advance, but you can register on race day, as well.
Your entry fee covers:
- Admission to the park
- Race shirt
- Race bib and safety pins
- Participation medal
- Water and snacks
You will receive your shirt and your bib and safety pins at registration on race day. We do not have early packet pickup.
Your registration fee is not tax deductible, but any donation you make at the race is.
Always! You can make an additional donation below. We will also have QR codes on-site that will take you to our donation page.
Race Day Details
Check-in opens at 8:00 AM. We recommend arriving at least 30-45 minutes before start so you have time to register, attach your bib to your shirt, and warm up.
Look for our tournament registration tables near the parking lot and shuttle drop-off. Volunteers will give you further direction once you’re checked in.
We do NOT have a bag check or place to store belongings. Please only come with what you intend to have on you during the race.
The race will go on, rain or shine.
Yes, headphones are allowed. We just ask that you set your volume at a level that you can still hear the participants around you.
Yes! Feel free to take on the course at any pace.
The course is timed. We will share a link on our website where you can view your results.
There are two water stations on the course, and there will be both cups and bottles of water available before and after the race.
Yes, there will be signs at miles 1 and 2.
Yes, we will have an ambulance on-site to provide medical support if needed.
Yes! We welcome both dogs and strollers.
After you cross the finish line and receive your medal, volunteers will direct you to our expo area. There will be free water, fruit, other snacks and drinks, donuts for purchase, exhibitor booths, and an awards ceremony.
