DESCRIPTION:Join Austin Lighthouse (Travis Association for the Blind) for the annual White Cane Day Downtown March! \n  \nWhite Cane Day celebrates the independence\, achievements and contributions of people who are blind or visually impaired while raising awareness about blindness and the importance of equal access and opportunity. \nMarchers will gather at Austin City Hall at 8:30 am before making their way through downtown to the Texas State Capitol at 9 am. The march is open to the public\, and everyone is invited to join us in celebrating independence and raising awareness. \nFollowing the downtown march\, Austin’s White Cane Day celebration will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired\, 1100 W. 45th St. \nLearn more about Austin White Cane Day: whitecaneday.org

DESCRIPTION:Blind and low-vision veterans have an opportunity to receive Meta AI glasses at no cost\, along with hands-on training to help them get set up and learn how to use the technology in everyday life. \nOn October 27\, East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind\, Austin Lighthouse for the Blind\, the Texas Technology Access Program\, the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA)\, Meta and other partners will host a Meta AI glasses distribution and training event at The University of Texas at Austin. \nEvent Details \nTuesday\, October 27\, 2026\n8 a.m.–5 p.m. \nThe University of Texas at Austin\nDell Campus for Advanced Research\n(formerly the J.J. Pickle Research Campus)\n2901 Read Granberry Trail\nAustin\, TX 78758 \nWho can participate? \nVeterans do not have to live in Austin or Central Texas to participate\, and their vision loss does not have to be service connected. \nAdvance application is required. This is not a walk-in giveaway. Veterans must apply and complete the eligibility process before the event.
